Create something thatreally matters

In Bandits Creation, young people and young adults work together to develop a new team-building game for Breakout Bandits. Participants take on tasks and responsibilities that match their strengths and current capacity. As the game develops, so do they.

From first idea toreal game

Developing a team-building game together

Developing a game in a real-world setting

The team starts by researching the target audience, exploring ideas and identifying opportunities. Using Design Thinking, ideas are developed and tested. The game is then built and improved step by step using Scrum.

Along the way there are choices, deadlines, feedback and moments when something does not work as hoped. Because the product is real, everyone’s contribution matters.

If the game is ready at the end of the programme, Breakout Bandits can launch it commercially. If more work is needed, our Game Developers can continue developing it later.

A stable group with room fordifferent strengths

Bandits Creation works with a small, consistent group of usually around six participants. Not everyone needs to be good at the same things. One person may be strong at generating ideas, another at technology, design, writing, organising, testing or spotting details.

The group itself is part of the development process. Participants learn to work together, take each other into account, ask for help and support one another. That is why someone needs enough capacity to take part in a team at set times and carry responsibility for their own contribution.

Discover & Design

Get to know each other, discover your strengths, come up with ideas, do research, make choices and develop the first game concept. We use Design Thinking to guide this process.

From Idea to Plan

The concept starts to take shape. What needs to be built? Who takes on which role? And what do we need to turn an idea into a real game?

Build & Test

We use Scrum to develop the game. Participants gradually take on more tasks and responsibility. We build, write, design and test, gather feedback and keep improving the game.

The Real Product

The game shouldn’t just be fun for us – it needs to work for real players too. We test it with others, solve problems and get the game ready to be played.

Launch & Look Ahead

The game is launched. We reflect on what each participant has learned and, most importantly, look ahead: what would be a suitable next step towards work, education or another setting?

What atypical morninglooks like

Monday and Wednesday

The fixed sessions run from 09:00 to 12:30. A morning starts quietly with coffee or tea and a check-in. The team then discusses what needs to be done and everyone gets to work.

Most mornings focus on game development. Every other week, Wednesday is dedicated to training. At around 12:00, we end the morning with lunch together.

Guidance while taking part

The Game Designer guides the creative process and development of the game. The Group Facilitator focuses on the person, the group and what someone needs in order to participate. The Creative Director safeguards the direction, product quality and commercial potential of the game.

Guidance takes place as much as possible within the normal working process. Working together, trying things, discussing choices and reflecting create valuable moments for development.

When isBandits Creation a good fit?

The Bandits

Bandits Creation is intended for young people and young adults aged roughly 18 to 35 for whom taking part in work, education or society is not straightforward. We focus particularly on young people from Lansingerland, Rotterdam, The Hague and the surrounding region.

Bandits Creation may be a good fit when someone has enough capacity to take part in a small group on two fixed mornings each week and work together on a shared product. No diagnosis is required. We look at the person, what they can manage and what they want to develop.

Costs & funding

Please contact us for information about the cost of Bandits Creation. The cost can often be funded by a municipality, the UWV, an employer, a fund or another organisation.

Funding does not need to be in place before the first meeting. We first look at whether Bandits Creation is a good fit. If we then decide to continue together, we explore possible funding with the participant and, where relevant, their support worker.

Could Bandits Creation bea good fit?

You do not need to know in advance whether Bandits Creation is the right fit. We would be happy to meet first and look together at the person, what they need and whether the group could be a suitable place for them at this moment.
